Synopsis...
An infant secretly given away by Lyla's father has grown into an unusually gifted child who hears music all around him and can turn the rustling of wind through a wheat field into a beautiful symphony with himself at its center, the composer and conductor. He holds an unwavering belief that his parents are alive and want him as much as he wants them. Determined to search for them, he makes his way to New York City. There, lost and alone, he is beckoned by the guitar music of a street kid playing for change and follows him back to a makeshift shelter in the abandoned Fillmore East Theater, where dozens of children like him live under the protection of the enigmatic Wizard. He picks up a guitar for the first time and unleashes an impromptu performance in his own unique style. Wizard names him August Rush, introduces him to the soul-stirring power of music and begins to draw out his extraordinary talent. Wizard has big plans for the young prodigy but, for August, his music has a more important purpose. He believes that if his parents can hear his music, they will find him. Unbeknownst to August, they have already begun that journey.    hide

If you would like an “emotional rush” in the middle of December, go see “August Rush,” before it leaves the Big Screen. It’s not to be missed! I’ve seen it twice and it was just as good the second time. And I don’t usually see movies twice. This movie, meticulously directed by Kirsten Sheridan, goes beyond just being a “feel good” stereotypically predictable Hollywood film. Yes, you know what’s going to happen, and yes, it reminds you of lots of films you’ve already seen, but the musical score to this film creates a synergy that the senses cannot resist. It elevates you to a place that you don’t expect! The heights of emotion experienced in this film are destined to make it a classic in the “feel-good-mo vie” genre. I’m talking “It’s a Wonderful Life!” –type classic. The powerful acting and perfect casting, especially of the lead character, Freddie Highmore are superb. If you have an “ear to hear,” don’t miss this film! You won’t be disappointed, unless you’re dead.

My favorite movie of 2007. Good acting and good plot for both children and adults. Reminded me of the movie about the "chess kid" in 2005-06.

My husband and I thought this movie was great. It is a feel good movie with lots of great music. The best thing is there is no cussing or anything in appropriate to watch with your children.

I absolutely loved this movie. The overall plot was amazing. The music was spectacular...a s well were the characters who sung along. This movie is inspiring, and leaving I wanted to go conquer the world. =]

It brings light, warmth and hope back into the lives of people who almost forgot what love meant.

Although parts of the plot are unlikely, this is a great story with inspiring musical scenes.
Robin Williams and Terrence Howard are both outstanding in their roles. I would buy the DVD and watch it from time to time.

I really enjoyed the movie. Although I will add the ending left several areas of interest undone. Does this mean there will be a sequel? I was touched by this movie and will want to see it again when it comes out on video

Felt REALLY GOOD, like a cool breeze on a hot August day...The movie is in no way deep or even believable, but that's not why you love it...Like the song goes.."If it feels this good being played, well just keep on playing me til you've"...well you know what I mean...enjoy the acting, the music, the fantasy, close your eyes and pretend a story like this could really happen...it's a nice thought that I think I'll hold...now time for my daily nap:o)

When I first saw the previews, I thought the movie looked heartwarming and fun to see. After seeing it for the first time, however, I realized the previews did the movie no justice. Filled with magic, suspense, and extreme pleasure, August Rush is the most moving movie I have seen in a long time. It contained a certain level of sophistication that is appealing to adults, while having the fun, active element that will attract children. Nothing before has sent me on such an emotional rollercoaster, or brought me to such tears. After the viewing, you almost want to go out into the world and do something spectacular, just like August Rush.
